Parma residents enjoy 'Park It' event
The Town of Parma held its 10th annual festival at the town park on Saturday, August 2. The event included a pole vaulting competition, live entertainment, concession stands and a fireworks display.
The pole vaulting competition was sponsored by Suhr Sports where the athlete's train. Rick Suhr of Spencerport owns and operates the elite training center.
Dave Fritz currently ranks the number one vaulter in New York state. He placed first in this competition with a jump of 16 feet, improving his personal best.
Reneé Evans of Buffalo placed first in the women's competition with a jump of 12'8".
Town Supervisor Rick Lemcke stated that the event "brings the community together and helps support the nonprofit organizations." All of the concession stands were run by nonprofit organizations. The monies raised will go towards building new football and soccer fields as well as a concession building at the park.
The town Recreation Department coordinates the festival. Entertainment was by the band "Boys Lie." The celebration was topped off with a spectacular fireworks display.
