Holley Karate students compete
in the state capital
Students from Holley Karate competed in the Capital Challenge August 2 in Albany in various events including: Kata (pre-arranged patterns), and Clicker Fighting (point system sparring). In the Kata competition, Elizabeth Pritchard and Hali Quaranto received first place medals. Paige Whittier and Andrea Quaranto received second place honors. In the Clicker event, Paige Whittier, Elizabeth Pritchard, and Thad Whittier received first place medals. Kim Whittier received second place honors. Sempai Todd Hutchinson of Hilton Kyokushin Karate captured first place honors in the Tamishawari event (the art of breaking). Sempai Todd successfully broke 10 bricks with a forearm strike, a 2" x 2" pole with a roundhouse kick, and a baseball bat with a shin kick.
