Saints sweep Cadets
After winning a Section Five title last season and returning their entire roster - including MVP Eric Palumbo - from the title team, expectations are high for the Churchville-Chili boy's volleyball team. They did not disappoint with a 25-4, 25-10, 25-20 sweep over Hilton in the season opener for both teams.
In game one, Jim Clar had five kills and Chris DeHority served sixteen consecutive points. Then the Saints ran out to a 16-3 lead in the second game before Hilton made a late run.
Game three was much closer with C-C using just one starter. The Cadets pulled to within one point at 20-19 on two consecutive aces by Tyler Gauldin before the Saints closed them out.
Churchville-Chili was led by Palumbo with 7 kills and 4 aces, Chris Shekell with 10 assists and Colin Dooling with 8 assists.
After finishing last season with a 20-2 record, head coach Joe Eschberger is more than optimistic about this season. "We didn't lose anybody and they all have another year of experience, so I would say we are deeper than last year. We are able to spread things around more, which will keep the other team more off balance."
