Conversation in the
Produce Department:
She: "Lettuce get married."
He: "That's a peach of an idea."
She: "We'll make a great pear."
He: "Let's elope."
She: "We cantaloupe but we'll romaine together forever."
He: "You can't beet that. You're the apple of my eye."

On September 5, Rick Furnal, owner of the Hilton Big M, permitted a major rearrangement of the Produce Department to free up a large space in front of the green onions, cukes and red, yellow and green peppers to accommodate a 2 p.m. wedding. The bride, Kathleen Smith, had requested the use of store space to enable her Big M friends to be there and to avoid "a stuffy, old wedding and have fun."

Kathleen Smith and Joshua Zink previously met in the Big M Deli while "playing tag" over a job opening there. Kathleen still works at the Big M. Joshua now works at Hilton East.

Twenty chairs were set up in the "veggie chapel" that featured an arch of netting interwoven with indigo and off-white silk flowers echoing the bride's bouquet. A white runner established the aisle that the wedding party took to the ceremony. An estimated 75 to 100 people gathered plus numerous casual shoppers.

To the strains of "Here Comes the Bride," played by harpist Mary Young, and led by youngsters Barbie and Cody Swan strewing flower petals, the wedding party processed. Rick Furnal escorted Kathleen who wore an off-white floor-length gown. They were followed by attendants Trishia Bausch, also a Big M employee, and school friend Wendy Cudworth, wearing indigo blue "prom gowns." They were met at the arch by Rev. Gary Goodell of the Greece Trinity Church of the Nazarene and Joshua and his attendants, Scott Carpenter, an assistant manager at the Big M and Jason Zink, brother of the groom.

Conventional vows were exchanged. Kathleen received a ring. The bride was kissed by the groom and Rick Furnal and greetings and congratulations were exchanged all around.

A reception and picnic were held at a pavilion at the Parma Town Hall Park.

The bride is the daughter of Terry Smith of Hilton. The groom is the son of Ronald and Mary Zink of Greece.
