Local programs celebrate State Humanities month
The New York Council for the Humanities invites all New Yorkers to participate in State Humanities Month by attending one of the nearly 150 public programs supported by the Council statewide this October. More than $135,000 in grants were awarded across New York state.
A sampling of programs in Monroe County includes:
October 3, 11 a.m., Pathways to the Past: A Walking Tour of Historic Spencerport, led by Town of Ogden Historian Carol Coburn, historian Ken Beaman and Patricia Uttaro. Repeated on October 10, 17, 24 and 31. Meet at the Clyde Carter Memorial Gazebo, Village of Spencerport. Sponsored by the Ogden Farmers' Library. (585) 352-2141.
October 17, 5 p.m., Rochester's Urban Parks: The Changing Prospects of Nature and Recreation, a lecture by Elizabeth Blackmar, part of the exhibition "Our Olmsted Parks: Implementing His Vision in Rochester." October 18, 1 p.m., Walking Tour of Highland Park, in conjunction with the exhibition "Our Olmsted Parks: Implementing His Vision in Rochester."
