Newsmakers for the week of
October 6, 2003 Tonya Burek of Rochester will perform her junior recital October 12 at the Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music. The concert is a joint recital with junior soprano Katherine Krumrieg and will include works by Gerald Finzi, Franz Schubert, Antonio Vivaldi, Benjamin Britten and Gabriel Faure. For more information call (440) 826-2322. Burek is a bassoonist pursuing a music education degree. She studies under Jonathan Sherwin of The Cleveland Orchestra. Burek is also the president-elect of the Ohio Collegiate Music Educator's Association at B-W. She is the daughter of Timothy and Susan Burek of Rochester, and a 2001 graduate of Spencerport High School. Anton C. Smith has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Washington. He is the son of Barbara E. Smith of Palmer Road, Churchville and a 1988 graduate of Uniondale High School. Nicholas A. Saunders has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Washington. Saunders is a student at Clarkson University, Potsdam. He is the son of David A. and Barbara Saunders of Lansmere Way, Rochester and a 2000 graduate of Spencerport High School.
