C-C Lions' Leo Club elects officers, works on activities
The Churchville-Chili Leo Club, part of Lions Clubs International and sponsored by the Churchville Lions Club, elected the officers for the year: President - Jennifer Ponicsan, Vice President - Katie Van Duzer, Secretary - Jonathan (JJ) Jordan, Treasurer - Matt Duell, Club Historian - Jonathan McGhee. School advisors to the group are High School Librarian Peggy Fleming and Mary Rugg, a junior high school English teacher.
Members of the Leo Club worked at the Churchville Lions Country Fair last August by running the petting zoo, dunking booth and the face painting and game booths. Leo Club members also work at Matthew's Closet, a clothing outreach associated with Corpus Christi Church in Rochester and by helping serve the Welcoming Picnic at Fairbanks Road Elementary School.
Other community service in which Leo Club members participated include helping the Churchville Lions at a blood drive and mentoring intermediate students in reading. Members of the club attended the Syracuse University vs. Central Florida football game and toured the university campus. The goals of the club include character formation, service to the community through teamwork and dedication and cooperation with the Lions Club in community projects and educational activities.

This year, the Churchville Lions Club awarded two scholarships to Leo Club members entering college. Kellie French and Melinda Rossi were co-winners of the $500 Lions Club Award. Both had joined the Leo Club in junior high and participated in numerous activities over the past five years.
