The first annual Kyokushin Karate Tournament was held on Saturday, September 27 in Johnson City, NY. Students from Holley Karate competed in various events including: Kata (pre-arranged patterns), Clicker Fighting (point system sparring) and Semi-contact Fighting (full contact fighting w/pads. In the Kata competition, Elizabeth Pritchard, Camron Quaranto, Paige Whittier and Andrea Aman received first place medals. Hali Quaranto, Vicki Chalker, Andrea Quaranto and Sempai Larry Quaranto received second place honors. In the Clicker event, Andrea Aman and Sempai Mary Gifaldi received first place medals. Kim Whittier, Camron Quaranto, Elizabeth Pritchard, and Thad Whittier received second place honors. In the Weapons Kata event, Sempai Larry and Sempai Mary placed second with Sempai Sondra Aman placing third. Thad Whittier captured second place in his debut in semi-contact fighting. |
