Margaret Bauch will celebrate her 100th birthday this month at Lakeside Beikirch Care Center, where she resides. In her earlier years, Margaret and her late husband, Fred, enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and abroad. Her life centered around her husband and the church. She has lived much of the history many only read about in books. Mrs. Bauch was born on October 21, 1903 in Kendall. After marrying Fred Bauch in 1924, she moved to Brockport. She had been married for 72 years when Fred died in 1996. Margaret is an only child and had no children of her own. She has a niece, nephew, lots of grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Margaret Bauch was an accountant and joined Fred and his brothers in the Bauch's family business at Bauch Chevrolet as a bookkeeper. She was able to live in her home in Brockport until she was 99 years old. In January of 2003 Margaret joined the Lakeside Beikirch Care Center in Brockport. According to relatives and Lakeside staff, Margaret very much enjoys her room and the people at Lakeside. The staff feelings are mutual. "Margaret is a pleasure to have here. She has a great sense of humor, always cheerful and greets everyone with a smile," Angela Forte, LPN at Lakeside stated. One of Margaret's great pleasures was her participation in the church. She is known for being the oldest female living member of Saint John Lutheran Church in Hamlin. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband. They even traveled and camped cross country for their honeymoon. In 1924 traveling across country was a big deal, since many of the roads were still dirt. Throughout their lifetime, Margaret and her late husband traveled across the country 14 times, visited all the states and went abroad to visit France, Italy, Holland, Germany and Austria. Margaret's family and friends will be celebrating her birthday on October 19 at a small gathering at Lakeside Beikirch Care Center.
