Ogden Parks and Recreation director appointed
Eric Bacon is the new director of parks and recreation for the Town of Ogden, replacing Glenn Boetcher who died suddenly this past summer. Bacon says he was a friend of Boetcher's and feels he has "big shoes to fill."
Bacon was the director of recreation for the Town of Chili for nearly four years and director of recreation and community services for the Town of Riga for over two years prior to that. He received a degree in recreation management from SUNY Brockport in 1996 and grew up in Weedsport, NY, west of Syracuse.
He is past president of the Genesee Valley Recreation and Parks Society and still sits on the executive board.
"I think it's great!" he says about his new position. "It's very exciting and I am very impressed with the community center and the park. I look forward to working with (Ogden Supervisor) Gay (Lenhard) and the town board and the staff ... a lot of good people with a lot of energy and I like that."
At Chili, Bacon had an intern, Brandon Frew, and he brought Frew with him to Ogden. Frew graduated from SUNY Brockport this year.
Bacon married his wife, Tricia, in June, and they live on Whittier Road with their three cats. He says he knows a lot of people in the area and is looking forward to staying here a long time. His interests include family, sports and "especially the Syracuse Orangemen."
