Brockport prepares for winter
Even with the temperatures soaring into the high seventies last week, Village of Brockport officials were discussing the impending snowy season.
Trustee Norman Knapp questioned whether the snow plows had been oiled and how much salt had been brought in so far this season.
"We're getting ready for winter," Department of Public Works Superintendent Bradley Upson told board members at the October 6 meeting. "We've already got 300 tons of salt in the barns."
Also, in preparation for the season, Upson said the village will pick up leaves in front of village residences if they are in biodegradable bags or cardboard boxes. "They can be raked to the street but if they are in bags it will save time and might save residents from having to rake them more than once."
Fire Chief Greg Wing was absent from the meeting but Assistant Chief Mark Werner stepped in and told the village the department had responded to 652 fire and 1,204 ambulance calls so far this year. He also told officials that the department visited schools discussing Fire Prevention Week. "We've given out 2,500 fire information pamphlets this year."
