Small pond - big fish

Unionville Station is a senior condo development about a mile south from the village of Hilton and it has a small holding pond on the west side of Route 259. Apparently, one of the builders has been stocking the pond for the past few years with small fish caught along Lake Ontario.

Several people, including John Sucy of Hilton, have noticed a large fish in the pond which seemed to be eating the smaller fish. With the help of his children, he attempted to catch the large fish. Recently, his son, Paul Sucy, hooked the large fish on a small hook and was successful in landing it. John said that it was all that he could do to not help Paul pull in the fish. Paul is 10 years old and is about four feet tall. The fish was a pike and about half as long as Paul was tall.

The pike was kept alive and transferred to Salmon Creek which has access to deeper waters than the holding pond which runs into Buttonwood Creek during high water. Paul Sucy is the grandson of Anna and Jim Sucy who live in Unionville Station.
