AREA

•Starkweather, Esther, G., age 94, formerly of Clover Hill Adult Residence, died October 24, 2003 at Medina Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Lipton Retirees and was known for her love of horses. She was predeceased by her husband, William in 1975. She is survived by a son, William (Eleanor) Starkweather of Arizona; daughter, Betty Eddy of Albion; daughter-in-law, Ruth Stark-weather of Albion; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grand-children; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Hewitt of Florida, Viola and Alma Starkweather, both of Albion; two brothers-in-law, Chester Starkweather of Arizona and Laverne Starkweather of Albion. She is predeceased by two sons, Edwin James and Donald Eugene Starkweather; two brothers, Edward and Harry Hewitt; and son-in-law, Henry Eddy.

A Funeral Service was held October 27 at the Merrill-Grinnell Funeral Home, Albion. Interment, Mt. Albion Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Clover Hill Adult Residence Activities Fund, 355 South Main Street, Albion, NY 14411.


BROCKPORT

•Colby, Alma M., October 23, 2003 at age 85. She was predeceased by her husband Claude; her grandsons Douglas Colby and Bruce Colby. She is survived by her children, Stephen (Betty) Colby, David (Fran) Colby, Dorthy Colby and Claudia (Rick) Korber; her brother William (Marion) Cox; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Alma retired after 25 years as a NeoNatal Nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital.

A Memorial Service was held October 27 at the Ogden Presbyterian Church, Spencerport. Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.


•Smith, Louie D., Jr., On October 26, 2003, at the age of 80. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Joan; his loving daughters, Anne Smith and Carol (Peter) Jelinek of Minnesota; grandsons, Nicholas and Nathan Jelinek. Louie was the former village clerk-treasurer and member of the Board of Water Com-missioners for the Village of Brockport.

•Toepper, Lillian, October 25, 2003 at age 93. Predeceased by her husband of 59 years Norbert and her brother Willard Cole. Survived by her children Tom Toepper, Kathy (Jim) Breeding; grandchildren Victoria Wahl, Jason (Jennifer) Wahl, Patricia (Lonnie) Schultz and William (Beth) Breeding; great grandchildren Trisha, Lonnie Jr., Lia and Devon; several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was said October 29 at St. Jude's Church. Interment, private. Donations can be directed to Lakeside Memorial Hospital, 156 West Avenue, Brock-port, NY 14420 in her memory.


CHURCHVILLE

•Merriam, Dodie, Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Predeceased by her husband Zeke Merriam and son Paul. Survived by her children Robert (Kathy), Roger (Sue) and grandson Ben; her daughter, Susan Koval and devoted friend Doug Susat; her brothers John (Shirley) Dibble and Gordon Dibble; her sister, Ava Peck.

A Memorial Service was held November 2 at the Union Congregational UCC, Churchville. In her memory contributions can be sent to one's favorite charity or perform a random act of kindness.


•Varley, Douglas H., Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. October 21, 2003 at age 88. Predeceased by his wife Clara. He is survived by his children, Deanna (Douglas) Pattison, Wilna J. Varley, Elaine (John) Thellman and Darrell (Janet) Varley; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Doug was a retiree of Eastman Kodak Company. He was a member of the Churchville Masonic Lodge #667 F.&A.M., the Toastmasters Club and a piano player in the Rochester area for many years.

•Hafner, Fred W., October 24, 2003 at age 98. Predeceased by his wife Mary and his son Ronnie. Survived by his son Donald; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

•Klafehn, Harold F., October 2, 2003 in Florida. He was predeceased by his wife, Mae Ellen (Duerr) Klafehn and his brother, Glenn. He is survived by his son, Barry; his sister, Loraine (Mel) Reid; his brother, Ray (Elaine) Klafehn; sister-in-law, Joann Klafehn; brother-in-law, "Bud" Duerr; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Interment was in New Port Richey, Florida. A Memorial Service was held October 29 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hamlin. Those wishing can make donations to St. John Lutheran Church in his memory.


•Nesbitt, Marion D., October 24, 2003 age 87. Survived by her brother, Willard Nesbitt; sister-in-law, Leona Nesbitt; nieces, Betty Jane (Norman) Laney, Nancy (Merritt) Ackles; nephews, Gerald Nesbitt, James (Pamela) Nesbitt, Thomas (Donna) Nesbitt; many cousins and friends.

•Baxter, Albert A., October 24, 2003, age 68. Survived by his wife, Mildred; children, Scott (Holly) Baxter, Kyle (Teena) Baxter, Krindell (Rick) Seal, Shane (Tammy) Baxter, Mark Baxter; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

•Clark, Anna C., October 25, 2003, age 74. Pre-deceased by her husband, Albert; sons, George and Lonnie. Survived by children, Albert Clark, Chris (Ken) Ochs, Debra (Brian) Fauci; brothers, George (Shirley) Hankey, Gene (Carol) Hankey; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

• Gary, Dolores W., October 21, 2003, age 73. KENDALL

•Ward, Concetta C., October 28, 2003, age 76. Survived by her husband, Harold; children, Harold (Norma) Ward Jr., Joanne Marie (Ed) Flad-McKowne, Steven (Phyliss) Ward, Ronald (Judy) Ward; sister, Jennie (Theron) Ross; nine grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

•Mael, Gordon F., age 80, died suddenly October 28, 2003 at Lakeside Memorial Hospital. He has lived in Kendall for most of his life. He did farm work for many years and in 1964 went to work at Kodak in the maintenance department, until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Kendall Fire Department, a member and trustee of the Kendall United Methodist Church, where he also sang in the choir.

He is predeceased by his first wife Ruth Mael (Henderson) in 1996. He is survived by his wife of three years Elaine; a son, Lynn (Candi) Mael of Kendall; a daughter, Sandra Johnston of Rochester; two grandchildren, Michael and Sarla Mael of Oswego; six stepchildren, John (Cindy) Bennett of Albion, Fred (Brenda) Bennett of Rochester, Ed (Sue) Bennett of Mt. Morris, Al (Patty) Bennett of Virginia Beach, Peggy (Tim) DeBoard of Hamlin, Roy Hubbard of Colorado; many step grandchildren; nieces, nephews and beloved dog Lady. He is predeceased by a sister, Alice Juhrs.

A Memorial Service was held November 1 at the Kendall United Methodist Church. Interment, Sandy Creek Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Kendall United Methodist Church or the Kendall Ambulance in his memory.

•Mosbruger, Evelyn, October 23, 2003, age 83. Predeceased by her husband, Charles R. Survived by her children, David (Kathy) Mosbruger, Laurie Neubauer, Gary (Lisa) Mosbruger; sister, Eleanor Rider; grandchildren, Richard (Lynn) Neubauer, Lisa (Richard) Tallman, Michael (Rebecca) Mosbruger, Timothy, Carolyn and Kirstin Mosbruger, Jon, Alan and Bryan Mosbruger; great-granddaughter, Mekenna Tallman; nieces and nephews.
