Local senior receives
Eagle Scout Award
Devon M. Rupert, a senior at Holley High School and member of Boy Scout Troop 62, was presented his Eagle Scout award on October 18 at the First Presbyterian Church in Holley.
To earn Scouting's highest award, Rupert had to earn 21 merit badges, serve as a leader in his troop, and complete a major community service project. His project was the repair and refinishing of the bleachers of Woodland Field-Holley's JV/Varsity Soccer field. The metal supports were sandblasted, scraped and painted; the seats washed, scraped, and painted. Rupert solicited support from local businesses and 18 responded. In addition, 30 individuals donated their time to work on the new Eagle Scout's project. In total, the project required over 360 cumulative labor hours.
Rupert has played boys' Junior Varsity and Varsity Soccer on the field so his project had a special meaning to him. He is a student at We-Mo-Co for Auto Collision Repair during his class day. Involved in scouting since first grade, Rupert earned the highest award in Cub Scouts - Arrow of Light - before becoming a member of Troop 62. As a member of Troop 62, he has served as Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Senior Patrol Leader and Troop Guide. He regularly participates in community service events in Holley.
His goal is to remain with the troop to attain three possible Eagle palms and attend Wyo-Tech in the Fall of 2004 after graduation from Holley High School.
