College bound adults invited to prep program
Genesee Community College (GCC) will begin a new session of its College Transition Prep Program Monday, November 3. The program runs Mondays and Wednesdays through December 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Batavia Campus. It is geared to area residents who have completed high school and are interested in beginning college during the spring or summer of 2004.
The College Transition Prep Program is an intensive, hands-on preparation course for individuals interested in college, but unsure about their abilities. The program provides individualized help with mathematics, reading, and writing skills important in college. Participants also learn study, time management, and classroom participation skills. The course also provides an orientation to college application procedures and financial assistance programs.
Genesee began offering the course several years ago in response to suggestions from area community and business leaders. Although the program is open to anyone, the typical participant is in their twenties or thirties and has been thinking about college for several years - but is often unsure of the first steps to take.
The program fee is $74, which includes all texts and materials. Individuals may register by calling Genesee's BEST Center at 343-0055, extension 6347.
