SUNY Brockport Men's Ice Hockey Team
supports Operation Christmas Child
The SUNY College at Brockport Men's Ice Hockey team, in conjunction with the youth service organization Kid's ROCK from the Brockport Free Methodist Church, have kicked off their annual Operation Christmas Child campaign. Operation Christmas Child gives members of the college and community an opportunity to share the love and hope of the holidays with a needy child in war-torn countries like Uganda and El Salvador. It is an easy community service project that everyone can participate in.
Each year Operation Christmas Child delivers millions of gift-filled shoeboxes to boys and girls around the world who are suffering because of war, famine, illness, neglect or natural disaster. Anyone interested in participating should donate a shoebox filled with a variety of gifts as well as a check for five dollars made payable to Samaritan's Purse to help cover shipping costs. Donations should be left at the Operation Christmas Child display table in the Tuttle North Ice Arena lobby at SUNY Brockport by November 22.
Some suggestions on what to include in the shoebox are small toys, such as miniature cars, dolls, yo-yos and any toys that light up or make noise. School supplies such as pens, markers, crayons, paper and coloring books can be included as well as hygiene items such as a toothbrush, soap or comb. Things not to include are perishable items, war-related toys such as toy guns or soldiers, anything liquid or breakable and anything containing medicine.
The SUNY Brockport Men's Ice Hockey Team will be participating in Operation Christmas Child by donating their own shoeboxes, collecting donations from fans as well as asking their opponents to bring donations along with them when they come to a game.
