Hilton Village Elementary School construction uncovers time capsule
During the capital project excavation of the Hazel Jenkins Wing of Hilton's Village Elementary School, crews uncovered a copper metal box which served as a time capsule during construction of the school in 1956. Principal Daniel Talany, center, revealed the contents of the box to students and visitors on October 27. On hand for the opening of the time capsule were the school's Student Council officers: Alex Ruta, Julie Barker, Sarah Grant and Amanda Flugel. The contents revealed a set of 35 mm Kodachrome slides of the construction; Board of Education literature describing the project cost and original proposal; and some pennies and nickels of the year. The school plans to laminate and display the items and is currently gathering items for a new time capsule to be placed in the new construction. Hilton Schools are currently involved in $56.9 million Capital Project construction and renovation improvements at all buildings.
