Bryan R. Murphy of Maplewood Avenue, Spencerport, is taking part in an internship this semester through SUNY Oswego's Experience-Based Education Program.

Murphy, a senior business administration major, interns at Gateway to Business on the SUNY Oswego campus.


Elizabeth Brown, daughter of Steve and Donna Brown of Spencerport, has enrolled in graduate school at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey. While a student at Westminster, she will be a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, which will perform several times with the New York Philharmonic this season. She earned a bachelor's degree from Marietta College.


The following area residents enrolled at Syracuse University were recognized by Chancellor Kenneth A. Shaw for completing General University Honors in the past academic year.

  • Amanda Poole, Church Road, Hilton. Poole is a senior majoring in international relations in the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • J. Adam Giese, Kenmore Road, Morton. Giese is a junior majoring in television, radio and film in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

In addition to achieving the grade point average required for Dean's List honors in their respective school or college, students who complete General University Honors have enrolled in at least four courses in Syracuse University's Honors Program and have successfully completed the freshman and sophomore Honors Program seminars. The Honors Program enhances opportunities for excellence in creative and scholarly learning and supports the academic, professional and personal growth of outstanding undergraduate students.


The following area resident was named a Chancellor's Scholar at Syracuse University.

  • Scott Snyder, Covell Road, Brockport. Snyder is enrolled in Syracuse University's L.C. Smith College of Engineering & Computer Science majoring in chemical engineering. His scholarship is being supported by the Russell K. and Katherine A. Chrisman Scholarship.

Chancellor's Scholarships at Syracuse University are awarded to entering first-year and transfer students and recognize outstanding academic achievement. To receive a Chancellor's Scholarship, students must have strong academic credentials in high school, be active in extracurricular and community activities, and demonstrate good character and citizenship. Awards are valued up to $8,000 per year and are renewable.


The following area residents were named Dean's Scholars at Syracuse University.

  • Adam Glogowski of Ironstone Drive, Rochester. He is enrolled in Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences majoring in pre-law. Glogowski's scholarship is being supported by the George and Hazel Clearwater Scholarship.
  • Jamie Duff, Barry Street, Brockport. Duff is enrolled in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts majoring in fashion design. Her scholarship is being supported by the Belle Brewster Endowed Scholarship.
  • Soultana Strembenis, Buffalo Road, Churchville. Strembenis is enrolled in Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences majoring in arts and sciences. Her scholarship is being supported by the Herbert H. Franklin Scholarship Endowment.
  • Brett Welcher, Hincher Road, Hilton. Welcher is enrolled in Syracuse University's Dual Arts & Sci/Public Comm majoring in broadcast journalism. Welcher's scholarship is being supported by the Louis and Elma Trupin Scholarship.

Dean's Scholarships at Syracuse University are awarded to entering first-year and transfer students and recognize outstanding academic achievement. To receive a Dean's Scholarship, students must have strong academic credentials in high school, be active in extracurricular and community activities, and demonstrate good character and citizenship. Awards are valued up to $6,000 per year and are renewable.


Rebecca Kellerson, a junior at Syracuse University with a dual major of Political Science and Public Policy, is currently spending the fall semester in Washington, D.C. It is part of the university's Maxwell-Washington International Relations semester. Along with her studies, she is participating in an internship at the Brookings Institution.

Kellerson is a 2001 graduate of Spencerport High School.
