They are among 16,000 students nationwide to be recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program and will advance in the Merit Scholarship competition. The National Merit Scholarship awards will be announced in the spring of 2004.
Kathryn Knowles accelerated two years in math, starting high school math when she was in the seventh grade. She earned a 100 percent on every New York State Regents math exam. Her dedication extends to her school activities; she participates in indoor and outdoor track, band and jazz band and soccer. As part of the 2003 girls varsity soccer team, Knowles helped to make school history as the Lady Saints captured the Section V Class AA girls soccer title.
Erin Finton's accomplishments in languages are significant. She spent a summer in Spain, skipped the fourth year of high school Spanish and scored a 97 percent on the New York State Regents exam. Finton is currently completing her fifth year in French. Outside of school, her involvement in her church earned her the Hands of Christ Award. As a Girl Scout, she earned the Silver Award.
