Candlelight Walk tradition continues in Brockport

An old fashioned Christmas event is now a tradition in Brockport, as the Candlelight Walk celebrates it's 4th year.

"It's a success because we live in a community filled with generous givers to help those in need," says Inga Songbird, organizer of this event. In the past three years, the Candlelight Walk has raised a significant amount for the Brockport Food Shelf, through sales of candle protectors that help light the way.

This year there will be a new addition to the festivities. Along with listening to various singing groups on porches, there will also be singing to song sheets, as participants stroll through Brockport's Victorian village on the Erie Canal by candlelight.

Participants are asked to bring their own candle. Candle protector cups will be sold for $2, and this will provide food for the needy.

The High School Band will play from 4 to 5 p.m. at Sagawa Park on Main Street, followed by the Lighting of the Christmas tree at 5 p.m. This year Orlo Derby, a 92 year old veteran from Brockport, will light the tree.

The Candlelight Walk begins promptly at 5 p.m. and will end at the First Presbyterian Church on State Street, where the Brockport College Community Chorus will sing. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served afterward. A can of food is the admission to this event.
