Tenny Animal Shelter holds open house
The Kathleen Tenny Animal Shelter, at 1215 Hilton Parma Corners Road, held an open house Saturday, December 6.
Deb Granger confesses that the shelter has proven to be an outlet for her strong urges to help unwanted animals. The Hilton resident, who works as a teaching assistant at the Village Elementary School, has been volunteering at the shelter since August.
Granger said she took an interest in the shelter when she first heard that it was looking for a home two years ago. She contacted the shelter and offered her time and talents. Granger now volunteer every Monday evening to come in and clean cages and feed all of the shelter's cats and kittens.
Granger has two dogs and six cats of her own at her Rolling Meadows home. Granger said she has taken in several pets that were homeless or unwanted.
The shelter is home to about 15 cats and 15 kittens currently. Adoptions are invited. "If I could take them all home I would," said Granger. "That's just not realistic. This is the next best thing."
The shelter, under the supervision of Director Beth Garlock, is still looking for volunteers and is specifically looking for some interested youth.
