Powley leads Saints comeback
Chad Powley won two of the final six events as Churchville-Chili overcame a ten-point deficit to defeat Gates Chili 97-88 in the first boy's swim meet of the season.
Powley won the 100-freestyle in 52.06 and the 100-backstroke in 1:01.10 and was part of the 400-free relay team with Kevin Roberts, Andy McKeown and Randy Mathews, which finished second in the last event of the meet to clinch the win.
Other first place finishers for the Saints were Brad Sisson who finished 1-2 in diving with Keith Newman; John Virsi, who won the 100-breastroke in 1:13.09 and the 200-free relay team of Luis Morales, Mike Liberi, Abe Murante and Virzi who won in 1:42.43.
The Saints picked up several team points with their depth by taking second and third in the 200-medley relay, the 50-freestyle, the 100-fly and the 500-freestyle. Mike Sabatka took second in the 200-individual medley and the 100-fly while Mathews finished second in the 50-freestyle and Ryan Brabant was second in the 500-freestyle.
The Saints trailed after the first six events 47-46 before the turnaround.
