Former BOCES 2 students
create SKillsUSA VICA club at college
Rob VanSkiver and Matt Huber, graduates of Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Career and Technical Education Center and second year students in the Air Conditioning Engineering and Technology program at SUNY Canton, have organized a SkillsUSA VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) club at college.
"Our advisor, Mr. Charles Stead, knew of our experience with Skills USA VICA as graduates of the BOCES 2 Career and Technical Center, so he asked us to organize a club here at Canton. We are working on building a membership and a direction for the club to follow," said VanSkiver. Their first order business is to start a statewide competition for Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVACR) at the postsecondary level.
SkillsUSA VICA is a national leadership program for career and technical education students. Members participate in skills competitions at the state, national and international level, attend leadership conferences, and sponsor social events and community service projects.
