Brockport monument featured nationally
Brockport's memorial to the fallen firefighters of the 9/11 tragedy is now featured in a nationally published book.
The Firefighter's Memorial Monument, which was the "crowning achievement" of the late Chief Scott Warthman's career with the Brockport Fire Department, received a mention, and a photograph in a book called Firefighters, published by the National Fallen Firefighter's Foundation.
The book is an all encompassing history of firefighting across the country, BFD's Public Information Officer Christopher Martin said. "I read a blurb in one of a National Association of Fire Chiefs newsletter that they were putting this book together so I sent an article and a photograph of the monument," he said.
The monument, with its write-up, is featured on page 148 of the red leather bound book. It includes information on the origins of firefighting, how to become a firefighter and the firefighter's tools, among other chapters.
"We've gotten good media attention from the monument," Martin said.
