Blue Devils win "Chow" Tourney
Sullivan sets record in consolation
Brockport and Spencerport met in the championship of the annual Coach "Chow" Girls Basketball Winter Classic played at Roberts Wesleyan College and the Blue Devils scored fourteen of the final 25 points in the game to win their second title in three years.
The Blue Devils and Rangers were tied in the fourth quarter 35-35 before Brockport got five straight baskets using their size advantage, with Gabrielle Boley and Jennifer Leasure accounting for six of the ten points in the rally. The Rangers came back with five consecutive points by Kacey Pratt to close the gap to five points with 1:20 left to play, but the Blue Devils hit their foul shots over the final minute to seal the win.
Pratt led all scorers with 21 points in the game to go with four rebounds and six steals for the Rangers. Jenna King had 11 rebounds while Lisa Hryvniak scored eight points and Andrea Kazmierski scored seven and grabbed six rebounds.
Brockport had three players in double-figures: Boley scored 17 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, Leasure netted 12 points with 12 rebounds and Kelly VanDenburg scored 11 points. Katie Lester had eight points to go with her eight assists.
Churchville-Chili ran away with the consolation game with a 61-34 trouncing over Gates Chili. The game was virtually over when the Saints went on a 22-6 spurt to close the second quarter and held the Spartans to just six points over the eight minutes and to just thirteen in the first half.
Katie Sullivan led the way with a career high 31 points and broke her own team record with seven 3-pointers giving the junior 89 in her career. She also had seven steals and five assists. Colleen Montgomery had a career high 17 rebounds to go with her 19 points, JJ Begley had nine rebounds with five points and four steals and Morgan Skiff added four points.
Montgomery was the only Saints representative on the All-Tourney Team and was joined by Spencerport's Pratt and King along with Brockport's Lester. The Blue Devils' Boley was named MVP.
