"Northern Borders" chosen as
2004 Tale for Three Counties
The public libraries in Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming Counties are pleased to announce that the 2004 selection for "A Tale for Three Counties" is "Northern Borders" by Vermont author Howard Frank Mosher. "A Tale for Three Counties" is an area-wide book discussion program that encourages adults and teens to read a selected book, participate in book discussions, and then meet the author.
"Northern Borders" is Mosher's nostalgic novel of life in northern Vermont's Kingdom County, as told by a man remembering his boyhood. This coming-of-age story was chosen because of its depiction of rural family life. Copies of the book are available to borrow or to purchase at any of the three counties' public libraries.
Book discussions will be held in twelve libraries during February and March, and Mosher will present talks and book signings in each of the three counties from March 25-27. Other events will include screenings of feature films based on Mosher novels and a book review contest sponsored by the Batavia Daily News.
The first "Tale for Three Counties" was held during March 2003, when readers in the three counties read "Peace Like a River" and heard talks by author Leif Enger who visited in March 2003.
This program is sponsored by the Bank of Castile, Friends of the Library groups, Batavia Daily News, and is made possible in part with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Arts Council for Wyoming County.
