Brockport department heads file reports
While the number of applications granted was up 13 over 2002, the dollar amounts generated for those applications was down dramatically, Code Enforcement Officer Scott Zarnstorff reported at a recent Brockport Village Board meeting.
The Building and Zoning Department granted 177 applications in 2003, up 13 from the 2002 figures. "There were no large construction projects generated last year by those applications and that's why the fees generated were down," he explained.
In 2003, there were 996 inspections conducted compared to 965 conducted in 2002.
Trash compliance issues topped the list of code infractions cited within the village.
Mayor Josephine Matela suggested an increase in fees or fines to "drive the point home to repeat offenders that code violations have to stop. We have to concentrate on the larger issues."
Fire department reports filed stated there were 91 fire calls to date and 42 ambulance calls. Out of those calls, three of them had fatalities.
Department of Public Works Superintendent Brad Upson reported that the village has a good supply of salt on hand and that 200 tons of sand was recently ordered. "The sand extends the salt and also helps with traction on the roads," he explained.
