Parma Public Library schedules
senior's book discussion group
The Parma Public Library invites all interested seniors to the library on Tuesday, February 24 at 2 p.m. for the first meeting of its Senior's Book Discussion Group. Isaac's Storm: A Man, a Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History by Erik Larson will be the first offering. Isaac's Storm tells the tale of September 8, 1900 which, "began innocently in the seaside town of Galveston, Texas. Even Isaac Cline, resident meteorologist for the U.S. Weather Bureau failed to grasp the true meaning of the strange deep-sea swells and peculiar winds that greeted the city that morning. Mere hours later, Galveston found itself submerged in a monster hurricane that completely destroyed the town and killed over six thousand people in what remains the greatest natural disaster in American history -- and Isaac Cline found himself the victim of a devastating personal tragedy."
A limited number of copies of the book will be available at the Parma Public Library in regular, large print and talking book formats. For information call the Parma Library at 392-8350.
