Stevens earns NSCAA academic honor

Oneonta State senior women's soccer player Kelly Stevens (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) has earned another academic honor for her work in the classroom. She was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America East Region Scholar Athlete Team for 2003. She was selected to the second team and becomes the first female soccer player to earn the honor for the women's soccer program at the college.

For Stevens, who is a senior meteorology major, this is the second academic honor received this year. In November, she was selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District 1 Team in the sport of soccer. She was a first team selection and her name appeared on the national ballot. It was the second consecutive year that Stevens earned the District honor as she was a third team selection in the fall of 2002.

Stevens was co-captain of the women's soccer team for a second year this past fall and helped lead the Red Dragons to its first national championship. Along the way to its national title. Oneonta set a single season record for wins (21) while winning its fifth straight SUNYAC title. Stevens finished her career having started 88 of 91 games and registered 14 goals and 12 assists as a midfielder.

Steven's academic accolades include being the Oneonta State Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2002-03. She is a Presidential Scholar, was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma as a junior and has been on the SUNYAC All-Academic Team and Commissioner's list since her freshman and sophomore years.
