BOCES 2 district superintendent announces plans to retire
Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES District Superintendent Tod Eagle has announced his plans to retire in July. Eagle has been in education 32 years, the last 10 of those as district superintendent of BOCES 2. Prior to coming to BOCES, he was the superintendent of the Jamestown City School District where he was chosen as NYS Superintendent of the Year in 1991.
Eagle has led BOCES through two difficult years recently as component districts struggled with cuts to state aid and double digit increases in costs such as health insurance. He was instrumental this year in founding the new Health Insurance Consortium in the region which has cut insurance rate increases in 2004 in half for participating districts.
As district superintendent, Eagle is the Commissioner of Education's regional representative. In that capacity he has provided leadership in BOCES and among the component districts as they grappled with new state mandates, including the new standards and testing requirements, and new requirements for staff professional development. Eagle has also served in a number of leadership roles in the state including as chairperson of the NYS District Superintendents Association and as a member of the NYS Blue Ribbon Panel on School Leadership. Eagle is also an adjunct professor of Educational Leadership and School Law for SUNY Brockport.
