Panels on DWI to be held at SUNY College at Brockport
SUNY College of Brockport is hosting two panel presentations focusing on DWI and how to prevent these tragedies from happening in the future. The first presentation is for SUNY Brockport students and will take place on Thursday, February 12. The second panel presentation will take place Thursday, February 19, and will be for faculty and staff. Both presentations will take place in the Seymour College Union Ballroom West, and will be presented in memory of Thomas Crimando, lecturer, Department of History.
The student program is at 7 p.m. and will be sponsored by the Departments of English and History, the English Club and History Forum, as well as the Brockport Student Government. People with first-hand knowledge of DWI tragedies will be speaking at the presentation. The speakers include Peggy Delory, Monroe County Sheriff's Department; Gary Metz, Department of Health Science; Kathy Weber, alcohol counselor; Sergeant Mark Philippy, Village of Brockport Police Department; and Robert Almeter, who will tell his story of how he lost his college-aged daughter to a DWI accident.
The Faculty Staff program is at 5 p.m. and will be sponsored by the Departments of History and English, as well as the Faculty Senate. The panel of speakers will be the same as for the student program, with the exception of Almeter. An additional speaker, added for the faculty staff program, will be Kate Papso, SUNY Brockport Employee Assistance Program.
Refreshments will be provided. The programs are free, and the community is encouraged to attend. Faculty and staff are encouraged to urge their students to attend the February 12 student presentation.
