Brechue, Boley pace Blue Devils
Senior Justine Brechue and junior Gabrielle Boley each scored twelve points to lead the Brockport Blue Devils to a 46-37 girls varsity basketball victory over Gates Chili. For Brechue, the offensive output tied her game high for the season as Brockport improved to 7-7, 5-4.
Both teams failed to score over the first two minutes of the game before Kelley VanDenburg scored two of her eight first quarter points to stake Brockport to a nine-point lead. Gates Chili got back into the contest with eight unanswered points in the second quarter to cut the lead to one before the Blue Devils poured in the final six points of the half. An offensive putback by Jennifer Leasure and four consecutive free throws by VanDenburg and Brechue pushed the Blue Devil lead back to seven.
Brockport increased their lead to twelve points in the low scoring third quarter and to thirteen on a Leasure basket to open the final quarter. The Spartans pulled to within six points with five minutes left before the Blue Devils scored ten of the next fourteen points to put the game away. In the rally were three baskets from the baseline from Brechue and three of Leasure's game total of seven points.
Boley had a game-high 14 rebounds to go with her twelve points while Leasure added eleven boards. VanDenburg finished with ten points and Katie Lester dished out nine assists.
