Pegler to play hockey at Cornell
Churchville-Chili senior Lindsay Pegler has committed to play Division I hockey with the Cornell Big Red beginning with the 2004-05 season.
"I have been interested in Cornell for several years," said Pegler. "I looked into other schools, but Cornell has always been my number one choice. Playing close to home was part of my decision. My family has always been involved in hockey with me and it will be great that they can continue to watch me play."
Pegler is in her fifth season playing defense for three-time New York State Tier I Champion Buffalo Bisons and has competed at three consecutive USA Hockey National Championships earning a bronze medal in the 2002 competition held in Anchorage, Alaska. She has also been a part of the Western Women's Ice Hockey Team at the Empire State Games three times with two golds and a silver medal to her credit.
"I'm not sure of my long term goals academically and athletically yet, but I want to be successful in the classroom and on the ice," said the intended Nutrition, Food and Agriculture major. "I chose Cornell because it's an excellent academic school and they have a great hockey tradition."
Pegler will complete next month with the Bisons for the New York State Championships and, if victorious, for the USA National Championships in April.
