Regional Odyssey of the Mind
competition comes to Spencerport Feb. 28
Some 160 teams representing more than 50 schools throughout Western New York will come to Spencerport on Saturday, February 28, for the Region 14 Competition of Odyssey of the Mind. An international event that requires teams of students to compete and solve creative problems, Odyssey of the Mind is now in its 25th year.
The day-long event will be held at various locations at Cosgrove Middle School and Spencerport High School from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free. Winning teams will represent the region at the New York State competition in Binghamton on March 13.
"Besides creative problem solving, students learn how to work together and think out of the box," said Denise Schweers, coordinator at Spencerport.
Competitions this year include Envirover, in which students build a human-powered vehicle to collect trash; Strategy Sphere, a team design project requiring students to design and build two devices to mechanically propel balls through a circular hoop; and Featured Creature - original performances about mythological creatures.
