Riga Republican Committee offers citizenship award
The Riga Republican Committee has established and is offering a Citizenship Award in the amount of $500. The award is available to any Town of Riga resident who is between the ages of 16-21. The Citizenship Award may be used for educational travel, training, education, trade tools or personal improvement.
Any interested and qualified Riga resident should complete an application and return it prior to the March 31 deadline. Interested applicants are requested to complete a questionnaire to describe how they would use the citizenship award, how their involvement in the community along with any training or employment in the community has made an impact on others, and how these actions demonstrate the Riga Republican Committee's motto "One Person Can Make a Difference."
Factors that will be considered in choosing the recipient include: educational achievements, employment history, contributions to the community, participation in student government and extra-curricular activities, volunteer service, evidence of leadership skills, tenacity and perseverance as a student, and past or present employee or volunteer experience.
Applications are available at the Newman Riga Library, various businesses in Riga and at local schools that Riga residents attend. Contact Deborah Campanella, 293-2111, to request an application.
The award recipient will be chosen and the funds will be distributed this summer. The Riga Republican Committee will also announce and honor the award recipient at its annual steak roast in September 2004.
