to visit Hilton Schools Rochester's well-known jazz pianist, composer and arranger, Gap Mangione, will open the world of professional musicianship to Hilton Central School third graders February 24 through March 11. Using the award-winning book, Ben's Trumpet, by Rachel Isadora, Mangione will demonstrate the musical situations described in the book at the piano, explaining musical skills including the jazz techniques: altering the harmony, rhythm, or melody. Students will be introduced to the big band concept of using a large number of different instruments to create a new high energy sound as well as the role groups or sections of instrumentalists working together to achieve a common goal.
