Gap Mangione
to visit Hilton Schools
Rochester's well-known jazz pianist, composer and arranger, Gap Mangione, will open the world of professional musicianship to Hilton Central School third graders February 24 through March 11. Using the award-winning book, Ben's Trumpet, by Rachel Isadora, Mangione will demonstrate the musical situations described in the book at the piano, explaining musical skills including the jazz techniques: altering the harmony, rhythm, or melody. Students will be introduced to the big band concept of using a large number of different instruments to create a new high energy sound as well as the role groups or sections of instrumentalists working together to achieve a common goal.
Workshops are being held at:
- Northwood Elementary School, 433 North Greece Road, Greece - February 24, 2 to 2:45 p.m. in the B cafeteria;
- Quest Elementary School, 225 West Avenue, Hilton - March 3, 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. in the Quest auditorium;
- Village Elementary School, 100 School Lane, Hilton, March 11, 2:15 to 2:50 p.m. in the school's auditeria.
