Film Fest a part of Tale for Three Counties
A Tale for Three Counties, the area-wide book discussion in Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming counties, will include a Film Fest as part of this year's program. The public libraries in these three counties are hosting this project and are offering book discussions, a review contest, and appearances by author Howard Frank Mosher, whose novel, Northern Borders, is this year's selected title.
Three of Mosher's works have been translated into movies by independent filmmaker Jay Craven. These movies capture the spirit of Mosher's work and present the rugged individualism of the people who live in northern Vermont.
Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross Street, Batavia will show "A Stranger in the Kingdom" on Thursday, February 19 at 7 p.m. On Saturday, February 28 at 1:00 p.m., the library will present "High Water," with an introduction and discussion led by local filmmaker Rob LaPoint.
The Cordelia A. Greene Library, 11 South Main Street, Castile will show "High Water," "A Stranger in the Kingdom" and "Where the Rivers Flow North" starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5.
Swan Library, 4 North Main Street, Albion will show all three movies starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 13. All programs are free.
Book discussions of "Northern Borders" will be held at Lee-Whedon Memorial Library, Medina on Monday, March 1 at 1 p.m.; at Swan Library, Albion on Monday, March 8 at 7 p.m. and at Byron-Bergen Public Library, Bergen on Thursday, March 11 at 7 p.m. Other discussions are being held throughout March.
The program is sponsored by the Bank of Castile, Friends of the Library groups, Batavia Daily News, Wal-Mart, and is made possible in part with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Arts Council for Wyoming County.
