Rangers tie on Otto's Goal
It was senior day for the Rangers, but it was freshman Dan Otto who scored the tying goal half way through the final period as Spencerport tied Webster-Thomas 1-1 in high school hockey.
After a scoreless first period, Thomas took a 1-0 lead in the second on a power play goal by Billy DeVos. The Rangers countered with several scoring chances in the period by Chris Mark, Joe Zaccaria, Andrew Diantonio and Greg Wojcik but could not capitalize.
In the third period, moments after the Rangers failed to capitalize on a power play of their own, senior Mike Maynard's shot was stopped by the Thomas goaltender. The rebound came right to Otto in the slot and he roofed a shot over the left shoulder of the goaltender into the upper corner of the net to tie the game.
Thomas blitzed the Ranger net for the final minutes of the period and registered 26 shots between the third period and overtime, but Ranger goaltender Curtis Ritzel made 51 saves in net to preserve the point.
The Rangers finished the season 4-14-2 and out of a playoff spot. Seniors playing their final game were Mark, Maynard, Jerry Pucillo, Ritzel and Zaccaria.
