Volunteers needed for hockey championships

The Greater Rochester Visitors Association and Rochester Youth Hockey will be hosting the USA Hockey Women's and Girls' National Hockey Championships at ESL Sports Centre from March 25 through April 4, 2004. Organizers say these events will feature more than 75 of the best female hockey teams in the United States including six of Rochester's traveling girls "EDGE" teams, promoting sportsmanship and the development of girls youth hockey in the region. There will be over 1,200 athletes competing during the tournament. USA Hockey selected Rochester mainly for its longstanding support of youth hockey, according to a press release.

A committee of parents and volunteers has been planning the tournament since August and putting on a tournament of this stature and size requires a tremendous volunteer effort. During the tournament, volunteers are needed to fill many positions, including security, merchandise sales, registration, food service, maintenance, hospitality and media relations.
