Girl Scouts earn Bronze Award

Six area girls have earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award. This is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can achieve. Each girl was required to work at least 15 hours in planning and carrying out her project. She had to earn two badges related to her project as well as the Junior Aide Patch and at least one Girl Scout Sign.

Heather Allen, Troop 879, held a Daisy Day party. Nineteen brand-new Girl Scout Daisies (Kindergarteners) from Greece and Hilton attended a "Reading is Fun" party where Heather read a couple of books to the girls and led them in some crafts and games. She also provided a snack and made each girl a bookmark, a button name tag and a patch. Each girl brought a few books to donate to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), an organization which assists children who are suddenly placed in foster care.

Danielle Heed, Megan Johnson, Lisa Koroniwski and Rachel Quetschenbach also of Troop 879 and Kara Pettifer of Troop 889 provided an evening of free babysitting during the Christmas shopping season. The girls performed a skit which they wrote for the 12 youngsters, played games, did crafts, painted faces and served cookies which they made.

Troop 879, a third year Junior troop, is led by Nancy Allen and meets at Northwood Elementary School in Greece. Troop 889, a second year Junior troop, is led by Charlene Alabaugh and meets at the Hilton Baptist Church. All the Girl Scouts are from the Hillwood Service Unit which includes North Greece and Hilton.
