Spencerport Municipal Electric
customers could see higher bills

Many Spencerport Municipal Electric customers, and particularly those who heat with electric, will experience higher-than-normal electric bills this month, according to village officials. The severe cold weather experienced in January and February pushed consumption to new highs, and required Spencerport Municipal Electric to purchase higher cost electric on the open market to supplement the limited hydro-power allocation.

Spencerport Municipal Electric expects high consumption levels to decrease as the area slowly moves towards warmer weather.

"As always, we will continue to supply you with the most reliable and lowest cost power possible. We thank you in advance for your understanding," village officials said in a prepared release.
