Girl Scouts luncheon focus on
Women of Influence ... Shaping the Future
The Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley invites the community to its annual luncheon on March 25. This event will focus on "Women of Influence ... Shaping the Future."
The keynote speaker, Toni Martinez-Burgoyne, travels internationally to speak on issues related to the advancement of women and girls. Martinez-Burgoyne, who holds a master's of art degree in architectural design, will share anecdotes from her career that began designing alterations to public housing and a major transportation initiative for Amtrak in Los Angeles. She then left the public sector to manage ARCO and Wells Fargo foundations.
Today, Martinez-Burgoyne, a nationally recognized woman of influence, is raising awareness of girls and women as chairman of the board of the Los Angeles Women's Foundation. She is currently commissioner of the Western Hemisphere Committee of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girls Scouts (WAGGGS). Most notably, Martinez-Burgoyne was named the 2000 Woman of the Year of the Los Angeles County Commission for Women.
At the luncheon, which will be held at the Crowne Plaza Rochester, the Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley's Honorary Board will recognize people and organizations for helping influence women and girls to fulfill their promise:
- former Girl Scout Maggie Brooks for her outstanding role in the community and her achievement as the first elected female County Executive of Monroe County
- Mary Hannick, a community volunteer at the age of 94, for her contributions to the Red Cross in Europe during World War II, to the Genesee Settlement House as executive director and to Girl Scouts.
- QUAD A for Kids for funding enrichment programs for girls in the city of Rochester
- Preferred Care for improving the lives of girls in our community through their generous support of the Girl Scout program
