Oliver North

Oliver North keynote speaker
for Arc of Orleans County event

Oliver North is the guest speaker for Arc of Orleans County's Signature Series dinner. The annual celebrity dinners benefit the Arc Endowment Fund.

For the past two years the idea of a Signature Series dinner has been popular with hundreds of supporters. For the inaugural affair, Arc brought Marv Levy, celebrated former coach of the Buffalo Bills. The second year featured Deborah Norville, award-winning TV anchor now with NBC as well as "Inside Edition."

Ticket sales are now open for the September 17 dinner event. Call Kellie Spychalski, Arc of Orleans community relations director, at 585-589-5516 (extension 228), for information.

Oliver North is a combat decorated Marine Corps officer who served under President Ronald Reagan as coordinator of counter terrorism. "This experience alone makes him a speaker with great up-to-the-minute appeal now," commented Robert E. Waters, retired Medina publisher who heads the Arc Endowment Committee.

He helped plan the rescue mission for Americans on the Island of Grenada, played a part in the capture of hijackers on the cruise ship Achille Lauro, and after helping plan a raid on terrorist bases in Libya, he was targeted for assassination. He is founder of Freedom Alliance, a foundation that helps children of service members killed in action.

North attracted notoriety through his involvement with the politically sensitive "Iran-Contra" affair in the later Reagan years and that led to his resignation from government service.

In his talks these days he assesses the U.S. role world-wide, identifies policies that have made the nation the only remaining superpower, and outlines strategies needed to keep America a world power.
