March Madness in Churchville raises funds for family
The 6th annual Lions vs. Leos charity basketball game will be played in the Churchville-Chili Junior High gym on Sunday, March 7 at 1:15 p.m. Proceeds from this year's game will help pay the medical expenses of the Everett family of North Chili. Mr. Everett is disabled, suffering from pulmonary fibrosis and in need of a lung transplant. The family is in St. Louis awaiting an acceptable donor. Mr. and Mrs. Everett have a young daughter in the Churchville-Chili school district.
The Churchville-Chili Leo Club is now in its seventh year with students in the Junior and Senior High in grades 7 through 12. The club is sponsored by the Churchville Lions Club in order to introduce students to community service projects. The club has maintained support activity with the Batavia School for the Blind, Ronald McDonald House, Matthew's Closet, Strong Hospital, as well as helping in numerous community events such as Riga Winterfest, and the Brockport Mardi Gras parade. The club also maintains ongoing recycling projects such as collecting pop can tabs (for dialysis treatments) and used greeting cards, and cereal and soup labels for educational purposes.
Both clubs meet on Monday afternoon immediately after school. Club advisors are teacher Peggy Fleming at the Senior High and Mary Rugg at the Junior High. New members are welcome.
