Drumcliffe School of Irish Arts performs March 20
The Drumcliffe School of Irish Dance will perform a repertoire of award winning dances, old favorites and new works of choreography at East Rochester High School on March 20. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. and will feature Irish Dance from 11th century Ireland to the distinct contemporary style associated with the world renowned shows like "Riverdance" and "Lord of the The Dance." Tickets are $13 for seniors and students and $15 for general admission.
Proceeds from the concert will help to finance the Drumcliffe dancers' travel expenses to Ireland this April, where they will compete in the World Irish Dancing Championships. The school has previously taken home seven medals in the World solo competitions throughout the years, and have their hopes set on bringing home a group dance medal this year.
Tickets are available at Irish Imports, 2871 Ridge Road West, 225-1050.
The Drumcliffe Performing Arts Company provides adolescents and young adults with the opportunity to work in a cooperative effort promoting Irish culture to the public. "The dancers gain hands on experiences in producing live performances in the community," says Edward J. Murphy Jr., Artistic Director and founder of the Drumcliffe School of Irish Dance. Murphy and the Assistant Artistic Directors of Drumcliffe, Michael Galvin and Katherine Montague, say they strive to provide the performance group with opportunities to perform in a professional arena throughout North America and abroad. The company has been recognized with many distinguished awards, including 15 regional titles, 10 North American titles, and seven medals in the World Irish Dancing Championship.
