Bright Raven gymnasts
win at I Love NY Cup
Bright Raven gymnasts competed in the 2004 I Love NY Cup held in Binghamton February 13-15 at the Broome County Arena and won several awards.
Sabrina Hill of Hamlin competed as a Level 7 gymnast in the 15 and over division taking first place in vaulting (9.10), first place on the uneven parallel bars (9.30) and second place on balance beam (8.40) and floor exercise (9.15). Her all around total of 35.95 was also good for second place. Bright Raven's Level 7 team was awarded the fourth place team banner with Alyssa Kober and Amber Kober of Ogden, Rachel Eckert of Irondequoit and Breanna Fischer of Spencerport also contributing to the team effort.
In the Level 8 competition for gymnasts ages 13-14, Julie Mingoea of Spencerport was the vaulting champion taking first with a score of 9.10. Danielle Palumbo of North Chili competed in the 15 and over division and placed fourth in vaulting (8.65) and floor exercise (8.675) and fifth all round (34.175). Christine Manthei of Chili competed in the same division taking fifth place on the uneven bars (8.50) and sixth place in vaulting (8.325) and beam (8.675). Megan Seuffert of Gates took sixth place on bars (8.60) in the competition for 12-year-olds. Jenna Easton of Chili earned 33.45 all around. Every member of Bright Raven's Level 8 team has qualified to participate in the 2004 Level 8 State Championships to be held April 24-25 in Utica by earning qualifying scores at this competition.
Fourteen-year-old Justine Picciano of Henrietta earned second place in floor exercise (9.175), fifth place in vault (8.725), and sixth place on beam (8.80) in the Junior division of the Level 9 competition. Her all around total of 35.15 was good for fourth place. Tracy Apeland of Chili, age 17, competed in the Level 9 Senior division and took fourth place on balance beam (8.65). Kerry Apeland of Chili competed in the Level 9 Junior division and earned 34.35 all around. Brittany Burr of Greece competed as a Level 10 and totaled 34.225 all around. Their performance at this meet has also qualified each of these gymnasts to participate in the Level 9/10 State Championships to be held in Rochester March 12-14.
