Grillo and Williams state wrestling champs
Holley senior Andrew Grillo and Kendall senior Donald Williams both took their final matches to win New York State wrestling titles among small schools in competition held at the University of Buffalo.
At 135 lb., Grillo won his final match 4-2 over Matt Campion from Section VI in improving his record to 42-0.
Williams took his title-clinching match in a 2-1 win over Brandon MacWhinnie from Section IV Tioga at 145 lb. He becomes the first state-wrestling champion in Kendall history.
Among the small school competition, Byron-Bergen's Mike McInally took second at 112 lb. after losing the final match and Kendall's Torry Tooley finished fifth at 152 lbs.
In the large school group, other top finishers from the area included Spencerport's Bryan Bourne, who finished fifth at 119 lb. and Alex Baxter, who was fifth at 189 lb. and was presented with the Sportsmanship Award at the conclusion of the meet.
