Toys for sports
Spencerport Sports Booster Club will host its 4th annual Toys for Sports fundraiser at Taylor Elementary School on Saturday, April 3 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The event consists of a huge Toy Show with statewide toy and sports card vendors, as well as a formal Toy Auction later in the day.
"It's a wonderful show," says Chairperson Bob Persia. "There are thousands of toys and sports items, music all day and food! The club's goal is to sponsor this event for the community and to have the community participate for the benefit of the student athletic programs. We urge the community to come and show their support."
Antique toys, modern toys and sports collectibles will be sold, with prices ranging from 25 cents to $250 and above. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
Following the toy show at 3:30 p.m., there will be a large, professional Toy/Sports Auction featuring antique and modern toys and sports collectibles acquired through show vendors, garage sales donations and student/athlete toy drives. The auction includes Star Wars toys, Barbie dolls, Matchbox cars, models, puzzles, board games, action figures, sports plaques, Transformers, Fisher-Price toys, Tonka Trucks, trains, sports items, sports cards and more. The auction includes about 100 listings.
Persia is himself a toy collector and vendor and will have a table at the show. He says he usually participates in four or five shows a year, specializing in die-cast cars and trucks, vintage automobiles and matchbox toys.
All proceeds benefit the Spencerport School Athletic programs. This year the money will go to the building project, providing bathrooms at the soccer field and several new buildings (a concession stand, bathrooms and a multi-use building) at the football stadium. Admission is $1 for adults; those 12 and under are free.
