Artist's watercolor works included in Buffalo exhibit
Brockport watercolor artist Dianne Hickerson will have three works in an exhibition entitled Wet & Fresh: A Survey of Current Watercolor in Western New York at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center on the Buffalo State College campus, 1300 Elmwood Avenue. The exhibition will be on view from April 3 until June 27. The opening reception is Friday, April 2, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
It is the first time that the center has featured solely watercolorists in a show, according to Gerald Mead, curator of education and outreach for the center. "It made the stakes pretty high for the artists," he said of the 22 artists who were selected from a pool of over 100 candidates from western New York state. The selected artists, ranging from realism to abstract in style, are from nine counties. Hickerson is the only artist representing Monroe County.
Three paintings were chosen for their use of color and handling of watercolor to treat reflective surfaces such as glass and silver. The paintings selected were: "Ode to Spring," "Silver Reflections," and "Strawberry Anticipation."
Hickerson is a member of the Rochester Art Club, the Pittsford Art Group, a signature member of the North East Watercolor Association, and a signature member of the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society. Last April, her painting, "Fiesta," appeared in the American Watercolor Society 136th annual International Exhibition in New York City.
