Applications being accepted for
full tuition at SUNY Maritime College
The Cadet Scholarship Program offers free tuition for students interested in pursuing studies at the State University of New York Maritime College. The program offers a two-year, full tuition scholarship to those students who are nominated by members of the state legislature.
Each state senator may nominate two students, each member of the assembly may nominate one student, and the governor, senate majority leader and assembly speaker may nominate five students each.
In order for a young man or woman to qualify for the scholarship they are expected to meet certain requirements. They must be a citizen of the United States and have New York state residency for at least one year. They must be in the process of or have already successfully completed a high school education or its equivalent. Students must demonstrate academic excellence with a G.P.A. at or above 90 percent and a combined SAT score at or above 1200. The individual must possess leadership skills and take part in extracurricular activities. The college's general admissions requirements would also have to be met, along with the participation in the Regiment of Cadets and License Program.
"I am proud to take part in our state's continued commitment to education. Both the college and the state will benefit from the diverse student body that is made up of young adults not only from all over this state, but from all walks of life," Assemblyman Charlie Nesbitt stated in a press release.
For information on the Cadet Appointment Program contact the SUNY Maritime College office of admissions at (718) 409-7720 or the assemblyman's office at 589-5780.
